Review of Grätzltour from August 23, 2023
On August 23, 23, in cooperation with the Meidling District Council, District Director Wilfried Zank l and the Urban Renewal Department, a tour around Wolfganggasse took place with a final round and discussion in the common room of the property developer Heimbaus, at Hermann Glück Weg 6. The tour was organizationally supported by the DigiGrätzl team: Gudrun Peller and Romy Grasgruber
Kerl.In advance, interested parties were able to have a say in the main topics when registering for the tour.
A tour was put together on the following focal points:
1. Future developments in the neighbourhood 2. Neighbourhood initiatives — democracy in Grätzl
More than 30 residents signed up and despite the heat, around 20 people from all components took part in the Grätzel tour. The participants were invited to walk attentively through their district with all their senses in order to share experiences, ideas and suggestions with the group later on
.Dario Unterdorfer from the Urban Renewal Area Management Department initially provided information about her activities in Meidling. You can read more about this on the GB*Süd website.

the history of the Wolfganggasse urban development area.
2nd stop
We were then given exclusive insights into the Gleis//Garten project in the old coach house of the Badnerbahn and were warmly welcomed with cool drinks. Vienna's first food hall is to be opened to the public here on 28 and 29.9.2023. The Gleis/Garten project team is open to discussions, ideas and suggestions from the neighborhood.
If you have any questions or ideas, please feel free to contact Ms. Sabine Hoschopf feiern@gleisgarten.com..jpg)
3rd Station
Mr. Wilfried Zankl and Dario Unterdorfer provided the group with valuable information on the residential environment and future developments in the district around Wolfganggasse and showed rendering of the plot of land still to be developed on Eichenstraße near the S-Bahn tracks. The project, consisting of three buildings, is called OAX and is being built by developers 6B47, Trivalue and Soravia. In addition to residential space, assisted living, commercial, retail, student accommodation and offices will be built here from 2024
.
4th station
The next stop was Paula von Mirtow Park near the ÖJAB senior home. During the redesign, particular emphasis was placed on natural design and preservation of the trees. Co-designing parks is a tradition in Meidling. However, when this park was redesigned, the majority of residents had not yet moved in, so a participatory process will be made possible in September 23. There are still areas and ideas for use to be designed for this purpose. The results will be incorporated into implementation in the coming year.
5th station
Anyone interested in gardening, relaxation and leisure oases in the district had the opportunity to explore the multi-layered Haydn Park with fitness equipment, ball courts, skate park and playgrounds and its adjacent spacious (7,500 m²) sports facility. It is open daily for children and young people from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (tel. 0676/8118 51 355). Associations can also rent at 75 per year from May-October and 5 to 8 p.m.
History enthusiasts were not neglected. Many did not know that there used to be a cemetery here, where the composer Josef Haydn was buried. A memorial stone commemorates this and the park borders on the so-called “Ring Road of the Proletariat.” Between 1919 and 1933, municipal buildings were built here in “Red Vienna” with infrastructures such as kindergartens, health facilities and swimming pools, which were reminiscent of magnificent buildings. Education and culture were not neglected in terms of content during the tour. Briefly information was provided about the Längenfeldgasse school campus, which houses the VHS, the district museum, vocational schools, high school and an elementary school. For those interested in cuisine, the Gasthaus Assmayer and the Meidlinger Markt with various dining options were highly
recommended.7th stop
The Grätzl tour ended in the Heimbau common room. Together, we reflected on what we saw and experienced. In summary, it can be said that the central location, the good infrastructure and many green spaces are highly appreciated. The commitment and open ear of the tour's initiators was positively perceived. Those present, who stayed until the end, were motivated to start and support joint activities in the district. The DigiGrätzl platform is perceived as supportive. Residents can network online, contribute ideas, make initiatives visible and organise themselves together to implement neighbourhood
activities together.A small survey on possible neighborhood offers yielded the following result:
(7 people submitted the questionnaire) In addition, ideas and suggestions were submitted, such as: bicycle check, creative activities for parents and children, Omi cell phone assistance, Rolatorengang

, neighbourhood checkpoint, yoga and acting group and Hofflohmarkt
.Next steps and dates
Another meeting is expected to take place on 4.10.23. The offer of further networking opportunities between residents and local players was very much welcomed. Also because neighbourhood initiatives can be supported by local actors such as the WIG, from which a representative was also present
